The Musée Cernuschi appears in the municipal bulletin as early as February 1899, in connection with the expenses incurred by its inauguration. The early years were those of setting up the museum: in 1905, the Council examined the furniture and movable objects that the École Boulle was to supply to the museum, and at the end of 1906, on the occasion of a grade advancement (1,000 francs) for its curator, it was stated in session that a catalogue in preparation would prove that the museum possessed treasures of Far Eastern art unique in the world. In 1926, the Council decided that the museum would organize, that year, an exhibition of Chinese hardstones. In 1960, the archive records the acquisition, at the curator's request, of a large ancient funerary statuette, presented as exceptional for its dimensions, its style, and its state of preservation. As late as 1976, the bulletin still lists the establishment as the "Musée d'art chinois de la Ville de Paris," at 7 avenue Velasquez (8th arrondissement).
